I wouldn't. I have a friend who registered a nike related domain a while back and he noticed in the logs the site was spidered by a company who polices users who use their trademarked names in domains. I told him to just delete the domain registration. He did. We noticed other people later on who ran into problems with Nike related domains. So no point in putting time into a site that could later be taken from you.

Needless to say I would stay away from Nike

Putting nike in a domain name is trademark infringement - don't do it.

It's trademark infringement to use another companies mark in a domain name if your site is about their product or similar - i.e. AppleComputerParts.xxx is trademark infringement. AppleProducts.xxx is ok if you are going to sell fruit pies, NOT ok if you are going to sell or talk about computer, iphone or music related things.
