In doing so you are violating the original author's intellectual property rights. Rewriting their content to make it your own is also a violation of their intellectual property right as it remains as a derivative work.

Copying some one's work could lead to having access to the infringing content disabled if the person you copy files a DMCA notification with your service provider.

Why not research and write your own articles and provide your visitors with something useful and unique?

    Yes and No.

Original will rank higher than a duplicate. But it also depends on your on page optimization, keyword placement, internal site links to that page, external back links to the page and how all that stuff compares to all the other sites that compete for those keywords.

Instead of copying something else that you think would be useful to your visitors, just link to it from within your original content. Who you link to effects your rankings too. Don't worry about the "bleeding off PR" bunk. It don't mean shit. If your article is original, well optimized, and links to some other relevant information on the topic then Google should be happy to show your page in its results.

There is no duplicate content penalty in Google. It is probably the biggest myth in SEO. Google filters duplicate content. For proof of this just take a look at article and joke sites. They are full of duplicate content but many still have all the duplicate content indexed.

Original content will not always rank above a duplicate. How much Google trusts the page/site is the biggest factor.

If you copy the whole article G will put you in the supplemental results even if you link back to the original site.

Rewrite in your own style is no problem for Google, Google penalizes duplicate contents. But rewritten contents are no problem with Google. In terms of ranking, it depends on the optimization used for the site but there might be a possibility to improve your ranking, if your site gets out of the supplemental index.

To have a really successful site, just be aware of avoiding two things:

Google spiders is not the only thing you should worry about.

It gets easier every day to spot sites copying your content. Specially if the site starts to get noticed.

Copyright lawsuits are much worse than being penalized by Google.

What I feel is that just take the idea from other websites and redisgn or restructure the content giving out the same message and place a link of that website. This is help search engines, you as well as your readers happy as they will be able to get all the related data at one place instead of going places for the same... :D

Yes thats right I have a similar experience like that. I created a Made For AdSense Site for Applying to AdSense with over 4500 Articles which is used by many people across but those articles are not copyrighted it can be copied by including a back link.

Google Approved me for that site. After approval I placed ads in it but did nothing to promote. Coz that site was made just to apply.

But after some months Google Indexed that site fully. Indexed all the 4500+ articles. But I never get a hit from Goolge. :D

YES!! My friend had build a site 2 years back. He never wrote an article by himself he just copied articles from other sites and also didnt gave a back link too but he promoted that site heavily by submitting in various directories and all search engines. Then after some months Google indexed all his pages and his PR is now 4 and is getting 1000+ Uniques per day.

Hey I have a lot of information in my mind but I dont have good writing skills
:( and good word power. Thats the reason why am looking for modifying other articles so that I can use my knowledge too.

Hey if I restuctured the contents then why should I place a link back? In that case will Google think that I have modified that content and placed in my site? Correct me if am wrong :)

imho, penalize and banned are overrated. the reality maybe google just put your pages to supplemental page. if you search using very specific and unique keywords, your page may appear. proof: search for all the malware page, all the warez things, you'll still find it in the search result.

Duplicate content is probably not good for your web site, but quoting a small part of any web site does not do any harm.

I still do prefer, writing my own content, this is simply because you have fresh content, which will help your web site in more ways than one. And you do not have to worry about being penalized for copying content etc.

I think that original and unique content are more likely to rank well. By the way if someone's content has been copied they can use http://www.copyscape.com/ to find out which web site has copied there content and can even claim.
