Hey Everyone! I do alot of content writing for various companies but I really struggle with passive/active voice as well as some basic grammar issues. I'm from the south (US here) and I guess my speech is rubbing off on my writing. Anyways, I was wondering if any of you know where I could find a proofreading/editing service? I do alot of medical articles and would really like to hire someone to review my work and help me improve. Thanks in advance!
Heh, I'm also from the South. Charleston. How ya enjoyin' the heat? I got the air crankin'! In addition to being an (ad) copywriter, I also assist in editing and proofreading. But, don't underestimate writing like you talk (like I did in the second sentence). Sometimes it's a good thing. If you are still looking, send me an e-mail, and we'll talk. If we are not the right fit, I can at least help you find a service near you.
My suggestion would be to take some classes at the community college. Find books similar to "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" (a bit of a British perspective but very good nonetheless) and work on upping your own skills. Unless you are working on big dollar projects where editors and proofreaders are commonplace and factored into the budget you will end up losing a huge chunk of your income to another writer. There are good grammar checkers that include passive voice trapping. The grammar checker with Word is very helpful. I would also worry about my proofreader trying to steal clients out from under me. But, then I suppose I'm just cynical that way.
