Is there any difference between copy writing and content writing?

It's my opinion that while there are a few differences, it's really all the same.

    Here's why:

No matter what you're writing, you want to make it engaging. That is, you want the reader to stop whatever he's doing and actually take the time to read what you've written.

The only way to do that -- whether it's content writing or copywriting -- is to employ the principles of persuasive writing.

For instance ... you have to know your audience. Who are you writing to? What do they want? What do they believe? etc.

From there, you need to grab their attention. In a sales letter it's the headline. In an article it's the title. Either way, the same principles apply.

The headline or article title's job is then to get them to read the next sentence. And the goal of that sentence is to get them to read the next line. So on and so forth.

This means that whether it's a sales letter or an article, your lead needs to be short, punchy and grab the reader RIGHT away.

Of course, with content, you probably won't have a guarantee, a P.S., testimonials, etc. But the overall goal -- and the techniques employed to achieve it -- remain the same, I feel.

Anyhow, that's just my 2 cents.
