I'm in desperate to thinking this issues...

I can't find the strong reasonable answer of this question :

If i copy image from other website, and place it in my blog, but i write the image source. Are this againts the law ??? Or legal ???

I don't want to send mail to administrator just to request for permission, becuase it take a long time.

I find that this action is no problem, since my site is not commercial. But if i have add adsense in my site, are this commercial or still no?

The article that i make is need to use image, like tutorial to join amazon affiliate, or step by step join blogger, etc...

take the first part of what you said, and think about it.

copy.

you cant copy it. even if you cite the source. You first need their permission, and then you can do it.

check wikipedia for more info

but i think it's ok.

see this :

www.youtube,com contain many video about tutorial or review about many site...
Are the uploader is asking permission for it ??? I think no ???
example : video about join amazon affliate, or step by step make blogger...

and in that video, there is using amazon.com / blogger as a background, right ??? Are they request for permission? I think no..

But thanks for the info...

umm...how about i using imageshack to upload the image that i get from other site and only give the link in my site. It is still againts the law????

With YouTube, when you upload a video you give permission for it to be shared.

With images is NOT the same thing. You simply can't do it without breaking laws. If you need images so desperately why not try some microstock images agencies? You can get images for as low as $0.50 or something like that.

Why worry? The worst that could happen is you get a cease & desist. You then take the image down and they forget about it. That's what usually happens. The image owner would be crazy to pursue it if your just a small site running Adsense.

Apparently someone has never run afoul of Getty images...

The worst that can happen is much worse than a simple C&D.

You have some options...the best would be to try and find a similar picture that is licensed for use and fair use -- if you can't manage to find one then you can try sourcing it and going with the mantra "It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission". At least know who the image belongs too, if they aren't a photography studio (Getty, etc) then I'm sure you won't have many problems with them -- and if they do contact you take it down, then you can simply take it down. If you source it and it sends a bit of traffic, one would think they would have little problem with it, unless it was competing with them.

Ideally -- you ask for permission, but if it's a blog and you need to use the image "Now"...then just do with it.

Have you tried hot linking to the picture? If you write your web page to load the image from the source's server, it is not copyright infringement to my understanding (Perfect 10 vs Google lawsuit judgement)...

Now, the debate on whether hot linking without permission is "stealing" bandwith is another argument... Just something to think about...

Depends where image was from, I would ask the webmaster first and also upload picture on your server as your taking there bandwith!

If you use someone's copyrighted image without their permission you are breaking copyright law, period.

When it comes to blogs, you have to consider two things. Many bloggers who have pictures that are being posted by other people do not know the law and don't understand that they are being stolen from. Other bloggers may or may not know the law but do not mind someone else using their images as they are given a backlink.

There won't be too many folks who will appreciate you using their image AND hotlinking to it.

If you are writing a blog entry about the other site or an article they have posted, drop the webmaster a quick note and ask permission. Most will probably give you the OK. Don't want to email? Post a comment on their blog about what you are doing - you might even end up with a link or two back to your own site that way. Or avoid the issue completely by using images that are in the public domain and copyright free.

Ok, i think it will be better if i asking for permission before...

But i have some question again :
1. Are there is a website which provide image bank? That can be used to be placed in my site ???
2. So, linking to image source is not againts the law? How about upload the image first to imageshack or something like that and give my site visitor a imageshack link (not the image source). ??? Which would be better ???

Technically hotlinking to an image source is theft. The reason no one pursues it is because the actual damages done are a very small portion of the overall hosting costs for that site and would be not worthwhile suing over.

There are many sites that offer public domain images. What types of images are you looking for?

The best way is to use either public domain images or images with permission that you upload to imageshack or your own hosting account and use that link.

One public domain I could think of is at http://www.publicdomainpictures.net. There are plenty of them. If you question what you do start doing it differently, just one image at a time.

Oh, I think I might not have understand what you were asking. You can't/shouldn't display an image from someone else's site by linking to it but you can certainly link to any site your wish from your site.

For example, if thisoriginalsite.com has a picture you would like to use, you can't put in your code on your site.

But you can certainly put, something like - There's a great picture over on This Original Site
