This is the first time i'm planning to install a Gallery system for my forum. I'm confused whether I should go with the Coppermine Gallery system or the mod for SMF called SMF Gallery.

Is there any difference really, in the2 of them? Or should I use some another(FREE) Gallery system?

Yup I must agree. COppermine may seem a better option, SMFGallery is made for the job and work much better with SMF. Coppermine needs some work to get it intergrated.

I always recommend and use Coppermine only. Because its very flexible and its template system is very easy to customize. I love COPPERMINE.

There are actually many galleries that are better then the SMF one, however...

sawz is more then correct. It's integration SHOULD be flawless, it's a sponsored product, and when one upgrades the other should.

You should play with both and decide which one fits your needs. I personally prefer Gallery2 because it's more powerful and has some features that Coppermine doesn't (sub-albums, item-level permissions, etc.), but it's not something I would recommend for someone who just wants a gallery as it's a fairly complex script and has a lot of features that some people would never use.
