Converting to CMS dilemma

I have a site here (www.access-programmers.co.uk) that has been up and running for about 5 years and is all static pages. However, it is a bit of a pain to add new content.

So...

1. Should I convert to a CMS system using something like joombla?

2. What impact will this have on my Google listing?

I fear that I will lose all my pages in Google and then it will be sandboxed for 6 months before my CMS pages would get indexed. Or have I got that all wrong?

Hmm. I think that, If you 301 redirect the old statics to the new dynamics, you should have to much problems.

 

Well there are various factors to consider. Firstly how many pages are there already? Doing 301 redirects for 1000's of pages might be a problem.

How closely can the CMS mimic your existing pages? With some CMS systems it's a pain to get them optimized for SEO.

Once you've got that sorted out then 301 redirects are the best option.

That's a difficult question to answer. From experience of changing my domain name, I would say yes... to a certain degree.

With a 301 redirect my pages took a while to get back into the SE positions they were in before the change. The site is still not ranking well for certain keywords, which it previously ranked well for.

This however is just my experience, and it might not be the same for you.
