Convert Visitors To Sells?

I am creating a few sites, and they will be online shortly. One thing I am curious about is how to have a high conversion rate from my site. I have the money to drive the traffic in, but what is a good way to "make" them buy my product? Is there anything to it, or do I just advertise and hope for the best?

Make a free trial for them to test.

Depends on what kind of traffic you are driving in. You can get bulk traffic and expect to sale anything at all. Risk a few bucks and make a nice campaign. :)

I've had success in throwing up an advertising campaign and hoping for the best. In fact I have had some campaigns that have worked well for years by doing this.

Almost every time I run split tests it helps to increase the bottom line. If something isn't working then I try to make it work. If it is working sometimes I try to make it work better, other times I just leave it alone.

Again what you're selling makes somewhat of a difference. I also run an online furniture store. My advice would find out what your most popular products are and make them more visible than everything else. Then make paying for that item as simple as possible. 1 measurement I keep in mind is the number of pages the customer must load from he beginning to the end of the payment cycle. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone! I have custom programmed software that I am going to be selling, and there is little competition for it. It will have a 1 page checkout + instant download delivery so I hope all goes well!

I somewhat disagree with the free trial idea. I do know you will want to give something away free (report, simple program), but I have found giving away a free trial of the real software reduces sales. I believe it is a curiosity thing, once they get 10 day, 30 days, 30 runs, they have already used the software to get what they want (number crunch, graphic output, find out how it works,...) and then they are gone forever.
