I bought a vbulletin based site form someone and was expecting to be sent a .gz database to restore... Instead I received a .sql file (looks like a txt)

Is there a way to convert it to a .gz file so I can restore it through cpanel?

.gzip is just a compressed (gzipped) file. If you had recieved a .gz file, it would most likely just be a compressed version of the .sql file you have. Normally a restore is done with a .sql file, so you should have what you need.
