I am looking for a way to use Google Adwords Conversion Tracking with companies that surely won't install the code on their website. It appears possible to set up conversion tracking by installing your own cookie (yes, I am a programmer) on your landing page, then when the customer continues on with my affiliate code to the website I'm promoting and buys something, assuming the cookie installed correctly I could detect the conversion? What possibilities are there out there? Thank you
Recently I came across Tracking202 and trying to figure out how it works. It has both free and paid versions but I didn't understand what the free version does yet You may give it a try if you wish.
I keep hearing people say "shut your campaigns down, turn them OFF immediately!" if I'm not using conversion tracking.
Tracking202 and Prosper202(the self-hosted version) are pretty cool. I think you can use them for this. They generate pretty neat stats. The way the conversion tracking works in the free version is something like this: Everytime a user clicks on a outgoing link(the link to the sales page) it generates an id. Then you need to get some data from your reports from the affiliate network and upload it to Tracking202/Prosper202. Then you will be able to see the conversion data.
"Is it true you can set up AdWords to only make you pay for conversions, instead of CPM or CPC?" No, it's not true. You may be thinking about the conversion optimiser, but this is cpc too, only difference is it's geared towards getting you more conversions automatically
yeah, they dont have a cpa model right now..I remember a few years ago they beta tested(like they do with everything) a cpa product, but it never took off. ..
I place my Adwords tracking pixel in my affiliate network's campaign - Just ask an affiliate manager and they will help you place it.
I have attempted to persuade several affiliate managers into adding my conversion tracking, with almost no ratio of success. This was a short conversation, using commission junction's email service, to a very well known company, for example... Am I doing something completely wrong?
Tracking202 is a phenomenal tool that I use for all my campaigns. If you're doing CPA, just ask the affiliate manager to place a tracking pixel (or if you're with Neverblue, you can do it through their interface yourself). If they ask questions or complain, change affiliate manager. This is a service they should provide for you without any questions. I've never had any problems with it. Tracking202 has several tutorial videos that are great, so I'd suggest viewing them first. As for Commission Junction, they have weird rules and TOS, so I don't use them at all. They don't allow blank referrers for example, which is completely stupid in my opinion.
