Lets say I am doing CPA - I basically want a sign up. I understand that you need to have the conversion tracking code in the page which is the 'thanks for signing up' page and not the landing page for my Adword. How does Google know which Adword keyword/ad it has come from if my customer is clicking onto another page after they have arrived on my sign up page? Do I have to have multiple 'thank you for signing up' pages to have multiple conversion tracking codes installed in each page? Its really confusing me how it works... sure I could easily have one 'thank you page' with one conversion tracking bit of code in there, but how does Google know which adword its from? Not sure if anyone will understand what I am on about! but thanks for answering if you do.
I am not sure about this, as it is a weak spot for me, but nobody is talking to you. Are you using Google Analytics? I think they can keep track of a visitor through IP even if they had cookies blocked. It may depend on what you are doing, but I don't think you have much to worry about.
Target your niche with direct pointing to the page you wan to promote about, and as advice you can try cutclick to find out "what is actually going on with your advertising technique
You'd have to have the merchant of the cpa offer install your tracking code on their sign up page, which i dont think their likely to do for you. If the CPA company has a conversion tracking system of their own, you could go that route. If you want to track to the keyword level, you would have to set up a separate landing page for each keyword. You'd create a different link from your cpa offer for each landing page. chuck
yep... this is what i think as well... loads and loads of different 'thank you' pages with different bits of tracking code.
Really? Do you have to do that? I thought google could track the conversion based on keyword even if you don't set up a separate page. Only if you want to track different kinds of actions would you need multiple codes not different keywords for the same action. Never thought much about it. Am I wrong in thinking this?
Yes, but the conversion code needs to be on the page where the 'action' is completed, not on your landing page. so, you could have one landing page and get keyword tracking if the merchant added your google code to their page, but you would have to contact them to see if they would do that. my suggestion using multiple landing pages was to forget about the google tracking and use custom links from the cpa company, if they have it. chuck
now that i went back and re read the original post, maybe i'm the one confusing this, when i saw CPA, i thought you meant you were promoting products from a CPA company such as Copeac, or whatever, after i re-read, when you say you want a sign up, do you mean an opt in? if so, then yeah, all you have to do is put the conversion code on your thank you page , (the page they go to after opting in) and google will track to the keyword level. chuck
Yes, cost per acquisition is what I am doing.. all I need is an email address, name and phone number to get what I want. I still dont understand how Google tracking knows what keyword it has come from - but I will set it up like this and see if the conversions show up on individual KWs. Cheers guys
