Conversion = Crap

I did a little test with $50, keeping in mind I was 99% sure I would loose most if not all of it.

I did a lot of keyword research and made a killer budget and CPC. Now, I limited the amount spent each day so I could try some different things.

Out of the 58 people that when through one of my CJ links, not one of them converted to a sale.

Does AdWords traffic just suck for conversions?
I hear AdCenter is much better but I decided to play with AdWords first becuase there is normally a higher amount of traffic.

No, but it's not a magic money switch either:)

adCenter does convert well but since it's opened to the general public I've seen conversion %'s level off with the other major providers.

Look at it this way, you learned a bunch of things that didn't work. Sometimes learning what doesn't work is just as valuable as learning what does work.

$50 and 58 clicks is not enough data to make any kind of decision...

Dude, give it a little more time and effort. Make sure you're split testing your landing pages. Sure doesn't seem like the problem was traffic. It was your on-page converting.

Your test was not statistically valid at all. You need to increase your sample size...

What sucks that you will spend hundreds and thousands just to statistically find out that it works/doesn't work.

I have the same problem. I wish there are some people who will be able to set up PPC so I get sale for $20 spent.. something like that, but didn't find anyone yet.

Yeah I was not expecting to become rich.... Im just beginning to test the waters.

I was just wondering what other peoples input was on AdWords conversion.

The reality is AdWords doesn't create conversions, your landing page/offer does.

Keep testing, that's the best way to figure out what's working/what's not.

    Good luck!

^ Thanks, I made a few changes to ads a few hours ago but still no conversions....

This may be a big n00b question but I can take my direct affiliate links from CJ and use those as the URLS for the AdWords right?

    Generalisations are never real.

I have conversions i.e. sales at 5% for one campaign, 1% for another campaign, and 7% for another campaign ...

... though I also have 0 conversion on another :( but make it up on back-end after capturing the visitors email/name for my list.

    H

(p.s. and I know that 'Generalisations are never real' is a generalisation :))

I'm currently running a campaign that receives a high CTR, as well as a 7-10% average conversion rate, with decent volume. It's all about being relevant to the search term. For the 2 CJ campaigns I have on AdWords, I make 100% ROI on one, and 200-300% ROI on the other.

You want to spend $20, try the second tier PPC. miva, 7search, abcsearch, etc.

I do not agree. Any PPC other than Yahoo and Google no need to try. There is no traffic and you divert your energy and will end up frustration over PCC advertising and eventually give up. Personal experience.

Wost Case Scenerio: 1 Sales per 100 clicks
If after 200 clicks still no sales, either your ads sucks or is a lousy program to promote. Test n test.

When it comes to converting adwords to sales you have two places you have to sell the visitor: the adwords ad and your page.

If your ad is misleading they're not going to click for the right reason which lessons your ability to sell them on what you're really promoting. If you're running one of those lame free ringtone ads and then they find out you actually have to pay money for a subscription you're not going to convert well. They were looking for free ringtones. Not a subscription based service.

The ad has to prep the user for your site. If you're advertising subscription based ringtones then ffs mention it in the ad. "Unlimited ringtones, only $5 a month!" or something. You'll obviously get less clicks but more clicks will convert since they're already okay with the cost.

Now you just have to use your single landing page to convince them that the service is worth what you're charging. You have to sell them right there. They should not have to go to an additional page just to sign up.

The landing page has to look professional so the user is comfortable using your site to submit personal information if required.

And of course, make sure that your conversion rate covers the cost of advertising. If you have a 1% conversion rate then your earnings per sale better be at least 100 times what the cost of the ad is.

Which leads into building a site that people will find through other means besides just paid advertising.
