Conversion Code Question

    I have a landing page that directs the buyer to the merchant after clicking on a text link. I'm the affiliate and want to use the adwords conversion code, but I won't have a "Thank You" page to place the code on as once they click on the link to proceed, they go to the merchant site.

    I thought about creating another page that has the code and then quickly redirects the customer, within a split second, but the code I use is a cj java script code..how would I do that? is that the right path to go down?

    Thanks.

    You need to get the merchant to put the adwords conversion code on their "thank you" page, either with your account ID hard-coded in, or with the facility for you to pass your adwords ID as a query string parameter when you redirect the customer to their site.

    Google doesn't care that the domain changes, so long as there's conversion tracking code on the "thank you" page with your ID in it, it will work fine.

    Here's how you set-up conversion tracking for PayPal. If you use forms to link through to your merchant sites this could be done in the same way by adding the code below inside your form tags:

    <input type="hidden" value="http://www.yourdomain.com/yourconfirmationpage.html" name="return">

    When using cj, there is a spot for SID, what is that? and is that some kind of tracking ability....also they generate the script code to put into my site, can I place the conversion in that script somehow?

    Thanks for the tips..

    The SID (which you generate manually when getting a CJ link) will appear in the transaction report on CJ - You could redirect each keyword to a link that contained the specific keyword, and then manually track conversions by pulling your transaction report. If you're driving a serious number of leads, I know that there are in fact CJ programs who will be willing to create a custom thank you page with your code as well, so that you can optimize your campaign and drive even more leads.

    Yeah Adwords conversion is meant for merchants. If you are willing to replace the javascript links with html links, you can track conversions yourself. Do a search for Reftrack.

    Adwords conversion tracking works fine for affiliates as long as the merchant is prepared to put your tracking script on their "thank you" page.

    You can also use conversion tracking on your redirect pages to count how many actually click through and to find out which keywords are giving you effective traffic (and to find out which keywords are causing people to just hit back or close the browser).
