I am thinking of starting a contest for my forum. Two highest posters would win the contest. Now I am not sure what would be best as the giveaway prize--money or something else? Your opinion please.
Money definitely. But you might want to use that money to buy other stuff and give that stuff away as well.
Money for sure! You won't have to deal with shipping and everything and more people would want to "compete" since it't not for a certain item in particular.
If it's a general forum - money. If it's a niche forum, for example hardware... a monitor or something like this would be great.
Most members said that money is the best option, but U R now giving free hosting package to winners, which many people might not need. Y don't U also offer cash for those who win and do not need hosting ?
Since we have the webmaster forum thought it would have been great as prize. If somebody wins and don't need the hosting I would give the money instead if they like. So far the contest is doing great. We have about 30% increase in posts. I think this greatly helps members motivate to post more. Its a win-win for all.

list some choices to winner from which he can choose after winning like : money, rapidshare account, megaupload account, free hosting, a free domain etc
Thing is about contests people only come to your site for the contest and become less active when the contest is over also if its done by highets poster, you get spam.
I would use this as an opportunity to get more visibility for my products. Use a combination of money and your products, or access to your coaching program if you have one, or your membership site if you have one. Jim
