Contest, but don't know what to give out

Hey guys,
I am launching a new site, very soon. I need to get it jump started though. I need to make a contest to get it off the ground. I would like to have it run for a month, giving away one prize per day. So I would need to buy something wholesale. I can't give away money as most of the kids are probably not 18 and it would just be hard to give away the cash.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with what to give out, where to get it, and how to promote it.

Whats the site about?

 

Well its a ringtone site, people can make their own ringtones and once the ringtones are made, they are added to the site as pre-made ringtones which other people can just send to their phones, so I want to get alot of ringtones made so people can just download them instead of making them

I was thinking something like ipods, or cell phones, maybe even handheld computers...

 

Buy some cafepress stuffage, and then give that out? That way, you'd have your logo or URL on it too, prizes and promotion!

Are there any alternatives to Cafepress?

well I have a at max 1k budget so I am looking for something good, and also like shamess said, preferrably something personalized with the website name on it

 

Hmm 1K give them free ringtones, games, t-shirts, etc

 

could always do ipod nanos with your url on the back?

 

Best option would be tshirts with your sites name on, you can even give them away at a local fare/school etc. to promote your site offline as well.

 

who wants a t-shirt from a site they never heard of? if that is the ad on a banner or I heard about it, I wouldn't want to enter. Pay for a mention on a Radio show and make the prize "free lifetime downloads" now that's something worthwhile.

 

Why not give away phones which would make sense for a ringtone site

also i kinda like the tshirt idea. maybe just have your compny in small letters but put something big and cool on to grab peoples attention or to make them want to wear the tshirt

 

i think T-shirt idea is kool. have your website name in small.
do have a good punch line

related to your website, get that printed on tshirt, people love to wear tshirst having good TEXT on that.

 

Speaking of "wanting to wear" the shirt, people won't want to wear something that the soul purpose is to advertise your company. Make sure it has something cool about it. For example, Jinx don't usually put "Jinx" on, instead really cool stuff that I'd definitely buy if I had the money.

 

well I agree the whole shirt thing is a great idea, but I was looking for something more electronic. Like ipod shuffles (the new ones) like 5 of those customized to say my website title on the back of it and give one out per week or something.

Any more ideas?

 

I am actually thinking about getting an iphone and giving it out after 1 month... good idea? haha im sure alot of people would be really interested in this!

 

I really think your money would be better spent on advertising, rather than prizes.

 

Well I have about $700 for advertising but I need the site to be full of ringtones in order for it to be successful.

Oh, I see your point. I was thinking of having a competition where users submit tutorials, just so I can fill my site with them for launch.

You must be really serious about your project to be spending this much money on stuff, ne?

 

Thats a good idea, provided you are able to market the contest well. After all you wouldn't want to give away an iphone because 50 people signed up on your site.

 

haha im pretty serious about this site. I had to get a loan to make it so ibetter make money off of it or im screwed. I am dead serious about making this site work.

The whole iphone thing I think is pretty good. Maybe even a sidekick 3 or something
