Hello, I was very pleased yesterday with my first logo contest. So much so I discussed the process on my blog and hopefully it will be sending more customers your way...

Unfortunately, there isn't a sticky on this forum and becuase I'm new I can't give thorough advice to newbie buyers using this forum.

Do you have any advice or "best practices" for people who wish to start and purchase a logo from a contest here?

I'll also point a link here from my blog so my readers can see your advice.

Hey Mark - and again, congrats on an awesome looking logo!

Very good article - recommended to all ;)

I've seen a little bit of anger from designers about others underpricing their work. As a potential contest holder, what do you think is a reasonable price to ask for, for a top-notch logo? I don't want to feel like I'm ripping off the designers.

Wow, Good question adnan, I'm curious as well.

Here's another question, what is a good timeframe for a logo competition, I see some of them run weeks so I ran mine in under 12 hours yesterday, however was that too short?

Hmm the only difficulty I see with that, is that in those 12 hours, a really good designer might be away from his computer/sleeping, so you could be losing out on a good logo.

If you want a quick turnaround, then maybe 24 hours would be your best bet, as you'll give everyone a chance to get their ideas down. Just a thought...

true, I just see some go for weeks and I'm not sure I'd have that patience. I reckon there is some middle ground there.

I think 7 days is a very reasonable amount of time and no contests should be allowed to run longer than that.

As far as price, $30-60 for a nice styled logo.
$60+ for original concept and graphic work.

Yea I'd agree with the 7 day timeframe, gives all potential designers a chance to see the thread.
