Content Writers in a Specific Niche?

I've got a question that I'd like to pose to you writers out there. I'm looking for content writers in the gaming segment. Where do you guys go when your looking for work?

Is there a major directory out there of content writers that individuals, and or companies like me can look for?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey,

A lot of writers hang out here at DP.
You should try checking out the content creation services section in the Buy, Sell & Trade category here at DP.

You'll find all kinds of content writers offering their services, and ghostwriters looking for work.

    Good luck :)

    Thanks

I recommend you use the search function in this section of DP. There was someone talking about specialization and using her love of gaming as an example. She seemed to know the games very well and played quite a few of them.

Its easy to find general writers on forums such is this one. But if you're looking for a writer that has specific expertise around a subject (beyond basic research).... that can be a bit more tricky.

Here's an idea: Advertise for writers directly on forums related to the niche. This can be actual advertising (a la Google Placement Ads) or just a simple thread that says "Looking for gaming writers" or whatever.

You can use boardreader.com to find niche specific forums. Once you find a good one, search for the URL in Google. Click on the "similar" link, next to "cache" below the search result for your forum. This will expand your list of potential markets. Hope this makes sense... and good luck.

Go to the But, Sell & Trade category and post there.

You can advertise on the BST as the others suggested but you will be flooded with... ummm... unfit writers. You can try looking through threads like this one – http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=106211 on DP and other forums. You can then contact writers individually.

Basically you will be headhunting for a writer who is also a serious PC/Console gamer. Have you tried gaming forums? You might hit gold there you know.

I recommend textbroker - find your man and contact him directly later on.

There are some "usual" ways like posting ads on Craigslist, on forums like these and on sites like Elance but I think that your best bet is going to be Technorati.

    Here's why:

When you do a search on Technorati for the highest ranked/most popular gaming blogs you are going to be presented with a list of blogs and bloggers who already love the subject matter, already have experience writing content (I'm taking your request for a content writer to be more of a web content writer than an article or copy writer) and have experience with engaging an audience. You can browse their sites without them knowing why you're there and you'll get a feel for their personalities and how much knowledge they have of the niche as well as their writing styles and abilities. Why not approach the writers you like the best with an offer to write content for you?

As an added bonus for you, you can bet that (unless you ask the writer not to) the writer will tell his/her readers about the new gig and encourage them to check out your site which will help your site's visibility.

Of course, that might sound like too much work :) I'm just having a "think outside the box" day :)

I use a couple of guys who work through reliablewriters.com. I gave up on individual freelancers after I got myself in a bit of trouble over content that I did not realize my writer had "borrowed" from someone else (Big tip there, Copyscape everything.)

I love DP, really, I do. But if I only looked for work here, I'd find myself screwed. So don't limit yourself to -just- this forum. Branch out, maybe try Craigslist, like that other guy said. Maybe try Amazon's mTurk program, although, the results you get there are 50% more shitty than the ones you'll get here. You can probably cruise gaming forums too, --gamers that like to write about gaming can probably be found in, like, gaming forums, haha.

Most gaming forums don't really have rules about commerce like business sites, such as DP and DNForum do, so you probably won't get in trouble if you make a few casual posts asking if any gamers out there double as content writers. Just be careful how you word things, and try to take a genuine interest in the site before you do any "spamming".

Just put up an ad on Content creation with your requirements. I am sure, you will find your man instantly.
