I have campains running on both search and content networks. In order to track keyword conversions I use the following in my query string: ?keyword={keyword}&type={ifsearch:search}{ifcontent:content} This works fine for tracking search because I can do a very simple comparison of keyword cost vs keyword conversion. With content however it fills in the {keyword} tag with a keyword pulled seemingly at random from the adgroup. I then get {keyword} when I look at my conversion data and "Total - Content Targeting" when I look at my cost data. I therefore can't match things up easily. Can anyone tell me if the following formula will work: ?keyword={ifsearch{keyword}}{ifcontent:Total - Content Targeting} ie can I nest tags
you need to add your own variable to your tracking string ?keyword={keyword}&type={ifsearch:search}{ifcontent:content}&adgrp=001 This makes it easier to parse and figure out the cost data and to my knowledge you cannot nest tags, I have tried
I tried the content network yesterday for the first time in 3 years advertising with adwords. In 3 hours I spent my $200 daily budget and not a single sale. I should have stuck to the original tactic - TURN OFF content network. Good for traffic. Lousy for sales.
content doesn't work like search. read up on it, content could be your best friend or your worst nightmare
content is good for eye catching CPA offers: free stuff, free software like screen savers, maybe dating offers. In order to sell something on content networks you have to find the sites with prospects first and then run your advertising there. For example, weight loss forum will suitable to sell weight loss ebooks or some supplements etc. But if you'll advertise it on Myspace, say good by to your budget...
