Hi, I thought about creating content sites and selling them? Has anyone had success doing this?
    Thanks

    Hi Sherryk
I think this is a rather saturated market at the moment unless you create sites, advertise them and let them sit for a couple of months until they bring revenue.
Sites which make a few $ a day or even a month, can sell pretty well.
If you are interested in developing some domains that I have together please PM me

This is called flipping. And you will do better if you build some traffic to it first.

On DP I've flipped a handful, anywhere from $75 - 450 per site (generally less than 10 unique articles, on a simple free template in Wordpress, and with no income or significant traffic stats). So yes, you can do it well enough. But if the primary value is on your content, make sure you're marketing it that way (in that case, the price you get for the site will rely quite a bit on what you charge for unique content typically - someone who charges $10 per article normally will have a harder time selling a $400 site with ten articles than someone who offers the same number at the same price but who generally charges $150 per article - then the site price becomes a big discount for the buyer).

I never thought of that..I have a lot of articles piled up on my pc..all original, and ready to sell on the content market..I never thought i could build a site with it, and sell it on the sites thread...

would it be much easier to sell that way or sell my articles on the content section? please help..thanks:)

based on the discussion in this thread, i can see that selling articles is much easier than flipping websites. if you flip websites, you have to deal with hosting, ftp, graphics, web design, and writing of the actual contents/articles etc. while article writing is just that. if the income potential for flipping websites is more than triple the potential of article writing, i suggest you go for flipping websites. if not, stick with article writing.

If you already have a hosting account (and if you're selling online writing services you absolutely should), there's not really an issue there in most cases. It also only takes minutes these days to setup a simple site on Wordpress using a free or paid template - the extra effort isn't really enough to not try it.

In the end, if you charge a good bit for your articles, you'll probably earn less flipping sites (so do it only if you have "spare" time and want to try something new), but if you're on the low-end with article writing you can absolutely earn much more with sites than selling articles alone.

Once I thought about this, but due to some reasons the idea just wiped out of mind. Your post and success story not only reminded me of the idea but, is a source of motivation as well. Thanks!

Would you hold on to the sites until they start getting traffic or would you create them add content then move them out?
Coujd you get $75 for a brand new site with good content?

Traffic was pretty low. They were generally ones I planned to manage for a while, but just didn't have the time for. Traffic definitely wouldn't have been a big issue in pricing for mine. How much you can get depends on how much your content is worth. For example, at that point I think I charged a minimum of $.35 per word for custom articles. So a few unique articles at $200-450 or so was a huge discount for the buyer who otherwise couldn't afford to hire me as a writer. If someone charges $.02 per word, they're not going to get as much for their site using content as the main selling point. In that case, you'll want the traffic, income, etc. first. Ideally, you'll have as many of those things going for you as possible when you sell though.
