Content or Search?

Ok, covered in my previous thread but a new question!.

I have had a good read through alot of articles both from Google and independant sites and am quite happy to fully learn (or at least try to fully learn!) the adwords system and nuances in order to improve my business's turnover.

So I have one big question. My company designs great value web sites for actors models, musicians, bands etc. So with that in mind what is your gut feeling.

    CONTENT or SEARCH networks??

Would be good to hear you thoughts.

Hey Warren...Anyone on here would probably agree that from a traffic and conversion standpoint, search would be your best bet. But, since your product/service is pretty visual(of course, all products are visual :)), I would probably give content a shot by targeting entertainment publishers. Do both..I would probably allocate more funds to search, but like anything else, it's going to be trial and error. Play around with different ad copy, display images, etc..you might find that content is producing cheaper traffic than search..sometimes it does, but you have to make sure your audience is laser focused to people that are most apt to take advantage of your product(geography wise, content wise, psychgraphically speaking)..Just scratching the surface, but hope it all works out

My feeling is that on content you'll get so many impressions on totally irrelevant sites, you'll spend a lot of time just wading through the reports trying to work out if anything works- I'd go for placements instead - pick out some of sites that your audience hang out on, and do some placements and search

I believe 'placements' and the content network are synonmous. 'placements' are what google is now calling site targeted content targeting, so if you opt-into that, your in their content network. But, yes good idea..opt in to site targeting..If you have analytics installed, you could look into click stream data and find out what sites people are visiting before and/or after they visit your site to locate possible placements.

'Placements' are not quite the same as 'content' in that you actually choose what sites you appear on, rather than it going anywhere on the content network based on keyword targeting - you can choose to have a placement campaign that isn't dependent on keywords at all.

    Hi,

I would find your top comptetion, type in your keywrods into google, search through the top 2o and find out which have google ads on them, then use the placement tool to use their traffic,

I usually start with the search network, then if the campaign is going well I would test on the content network also.

I start with search as it gets approved faster than content.

The search network is usually much better quality than the content network. I wold recommend either turning the content network off, or use separate bids for the content network, as clicks are much cheaper than the search network.

A lot of different opinions. I would go for the content network in this case. But try to target long-tail keywords
