Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer a beginner question on a beautiful sunny Saturday I am finding hard to figure out what works and what isn't working in the content network as you do not get the same stats you get in the "search network". Your do not know what ADS get clicked What keywords get more impression what keywords get clicked etc, etc, etc. How do you track your "content network" only campaigns?
Content isn't triggered by individual keywords, the first 50 in an adgroup are used to set a theme - that's what triggers the ad. But you can track what ads are clicked - run a report from the reporting tab.
Makes total sense. Thank you ! Any tips in tracking "content network" effectiveness of campaigns would appreciated.
Tracking effectiveness on the CN is no different than the search network. The ad that gets the highest click rate times conversion rate is your winner. Always try to improve on your current winner. There are a bunch of other variables too: not all sites are created equal so you want to remove those that are ineffective.
There was a great point that might have been missed :- Only the top 50 keywords in an ad group will be noticed in a content network campaign!!! Therefore, create ad groups of only 50 keywords if you are concentrating on content network only.
The content network DOES work long term. Also, you don't manage a content network campaign at the keyword level, you manage it at the adgroup level.
Content network should never be touched unless you have enough experience on adwords.Stay at least 1 mile away from it
I advertise on the content network it can be done and can be profitable but you have to be ready to test a lot and you have to optimize your landing page(s) to be profitalbe. Also in the testing as mentioned before you have to look for the best places to run your ads and manage them as well. These places will have good organic search traffic and display your ad in a very visible area. I know this will take time and effort but it is worth it if you get it right otherwise I would say pay close attention to the post above mine and stay away LOL.
Click the reports tab and run a placement report. Incidentally, they are about to change the design of the reporting function, more of them will be available from the campaign tab 'control panel'. I think the reporting tab will disappear altogether soon.
Content network usually converts lower than search networks but on the plus side they can really be cheap therefore still bring a better ROI than search network.
I will advice you to go for testing becuase CN has same ferature as search network. you have to target local keyword more than keyword which got high Bids due to compition. If you likeCN than you have to concentrate on keyword which is in your content and make sure they all matches 70 percent to your website content.
If a websites name is quite uncommon like weirdoz.com or something (just an example ) and the name is in the websites title description (or in the content), can you then use this keyword (weirdoz.com) for your campaign? Or does that keyword also have to be in your site content? If you can use very uncommon keywords that you find in a website where you want to advertise (through CN), then isn't that a good way to get a very low CPC. Or is it just impossible?
Why would you include the weird website name as a keyword? Are people searching for your brand name? Focus on the content of your website over the brand. For CPC, it depends on the site that your advertising on. Adsenseformobile will charge pennies while other sites, like ehow or ask.com, will usually up the CPC. Does that help?
