    Does anybody here use Post Nuke? I am looking for a free content management system but I refuse to start developing in modules that are custom to one specific system.

    What advice do you have to give?

    How many pages do you plan on having on your site? For me that was the biggest decision on whether to use a CMS or not or even make my own.

    Take a look at http://www.opensourcecms.com

    The way the modules hang together is pretty similar between the CMS systems so if you coded for one, and then decided to change it wouldn't be a big deal to change to another.

    Your bigger issues with PHP Nuke relate to the fact that its not SE friendly by nature and you have to patch with googletap or googliser (see http://www.nukecops.com) and there are alot of security flaws. I have a Nuke site and it's dead easy to write for, but then they all would be, I guess.

    Personally my next site will probably be Mambo, Xoops or e107

    I personally don't like Mambo. I tried it and it was very easy to navigate and such, but didn't offer the flexibility or speed that a high traffic site demands. If you have a limited budget it may work in the short run, but if you can afford it I would recommend outsourcing the project. There are plenty of people that make these things custom for a very affordable price (<$1000) with all the features you need.

    I also vote for opensourcecms and Mambo.

    I am now running it on both the sites in my sig ... so nice and easy to manage :D .

    Basically I want to take my site (shown in my signature) and keep that kind of menu, use some custom modules and not have to change my programming style whatsoever. The most important is my programming style because I need to keep my aps as normal scripts so that others may use them.

    Why don't you just use some php includes or something then like service side includes and you can use .htaccess to parse them as .html pages or however you had it.

    testing for useability etc

    But I must say I am not sure that I would implement them at all as I find the loss of "control" of the site difficult to take. ie once you are committed that is the end of it you can only have what they, the developers, want to have not what you want.

    I have looked at Mambo in depth before and I just could not get to grips with it totally but here I am back comparing it again.

    Of these three it is Nuke that interests me more though I haven't checked out e107 yet.
