This got me thinking, who ranks no 1 for "here".
Those guys don't rank for "here" because of content, but for no links. I wouldn't want to try competing with them. And 1.6 billion results  :D

With enough links you can overcome any other shortfall but that is a dangerous strategy given how things can change.

Also, if you are getting as many links as Acrobat, there is no debate for you as far as content vs. links.

I find it ironic that the converstaion is surrounding backlinks for the most part and that to get backlinks you need to market.

    Oh the irony!

    Content is kong, not king.

Think of a website that you visit regularly.

Why do you visit it regularly? - Content right??

A link on the other hand is just some code on a webpage.

This is very funny that this thread is started. I wondered many time about things like this.

Example check Google and Yahoo ranking for keyword "please leave this site now" awesome and amazing. The whole keyword does not even appear on their pages.

If you ask me the thing is all about links Google does not care about your content.

depends on what you want, is this a long term or short term game for you?

I believe content is king now and will be more important later. Sure he helps to get some links to go with your content but I believe search engines will reward content in the future and track user habits. I don't understand why people seem to ignore quality. All the top webmasters I know always have quality content.

I say the focus should be on content as regularly updated and unique content will enhance credibility and trust of users and Search Engine, thus generate more quality Back links
So I personally agree that "Content is King" which helps in generating links
