Does anyone else have a problem finding content for crap products. I mean, there is only so much you can say about some things. If your promoting a totally unglamerous product such as plain labels, where the hell do you find content to add to your site on a regular basis about that. I guess those with the knack are the ones who make the money, but I'm curious to hear your ideas. Willam Martin
That was taught to me many moons ago: Sell the sizzle, not the steak. So write content about what the plain white labels will do for a customer. How many sizes? Thickness? Will it work in a typewriter (who remembers those?)? A laser jet? Will ink smear? And you get the idea.
Totally agree. If you move that direction and start extrapolating all kinds of benefits these puppies will have to the consumer, you'll be able to come up with more. OR, have a couple beers and then write
On that subject - iowadawg is on the right trail... I'm finding on article websites (especially) that basically all the authors just pick out a keyword and then write anything ("padding" or "crapping on" are the terms we used at school) around it to fill up the 400-500 words required to make an article. (I don't like what's happening ... but its happening all right) You actually have the upper hand, as there is a lack of articles out there - there is a better chance you'll be #1 !
If I am looking to buy labels I don't want to have to wade through a bunch of padding. I want only pertinent version, size, weight paper, and color etc. My sister has bought some neat plain paper tags and sacks online. If you have need for a product you can find it. Shannon
What about instead writing for the people who will need those labels? You know the Dilberts etc. Think about those guys and gals in the mailroom. What do they need to spice up their life?
AH yes, remember those days well. Teacher would say, write an essay on snow. And then I would write and essay just on snow, the word snow in just about every single sentence! Then in college, had one professor who never read what was turned in, so everyone just wrote and wrote and wrote...found out he graded by the amount! A lot of so called article gurus, and article sites, say just that. Pick a top keyword and write an article using that keyword as many times as possible. Pad around that keyword, as the search engines love the keyword! So now, tons of crap articles everywhere. Go to an article site, run a search on any keyword and then read those articles. Some are just plain stupid!
Thanks for your comments so far. I don't have a problem with the product sales copy itself. I agree with Smyrl on this point - short and sweet. My issue is building up article type content for SEO purpopses. Maybe a better title for the topic would have been "Articles for crap topics". Seen as you've all twigged im talking about labels - how do you write an article about them - especially as the site is aimed at industrial users who already know everything and not people who would benefit from material about "what one across the web" means and want labels for their xmas cards! Horrendous topic to write about! The sites sell well enough on the sales copy, but adding new content to keep Google happy is not easy.
You could try and say about how well they stick on different surfaces, how much uv/light resistant they are... glossyness .. deals if large quantities are purchased, if the packaging is recyclable or not or eco friendly.. if you think about it there are a lot of things about labels to talk about...
