Content Delivery Networks - Are They Worth It?

Since there is a supposedly new emphasis on web page load times in Google which affects ranking of pages, I've started investigating CDN's (content delivery networks) as a way to speed up load times. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good provider or any thoughts on if CDN's will help or not?

It really depends what you're trying to do. For small files like images, sure, CDN's are great. For big video files, it's really too expensive. Though all the CDN's will spread this fear that your videos won't load if it's not on a CDN, the reality is far different. Just about anyone can download at streaming video rates. You have to have a pretty crappy network not to be able to support video at 500kbps.
