Hi all - I have a question. Picked up a dropped domain recently and there is alot of content on archive.org from the old site.

It is factual information that I would rewrite, but I am curious if there would be a problem using the old site basically as a content template. Is it copyright infringement to use some of that content to resurrect a new site on the same topic?

I would not copy the design, so I am talking purely on text-based content.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a quick search and didn't find a thread.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, it copyright infringement. You bought a domain name, not the content. The old owner may use the content on another site, or may never use it again - but you still need permission to use it.

Just rewrite it and change it around a bit. If it is factual information, then he would have trouble really doing much about it. A decent rewriter costs maybe 4-5 dollars an article, so it's the safe route.
