Contacting your Forum Members?

So I just mass PM'd my forum members (site in my sig) and I was amazed anyway at how many people jumped back on the forum again.

So I was wondering how often do members here PM / contact their members?

I think I'll take a monthly approach to see how it goes. If it is too much, quarterly I suppose.

 

If you do it too much it might piss people off.

 

Use it as a tool, don't try to come up with things just to "keep them updated". When you find a good resource somewhere, share it with them. Think about value. When you lose credibility, your members will stop reading your newslettes. Best thing is to keep your eyes open and reward your members for being members

 

You can do what Shawn does and send a newsletter with 3 lines in it every 6 or 7 months

 

I think I've E-mailed all my members just once in the last five years, and that was after being down for awhile from hacking.

 

I do it once a month - or whenever a big feature is introduced.

 

I love DP's newsletters. You can almost tell that someone gave him a choice of being poked in the eye with a needle or writing one.

He chose the newsletter, but half way through you can tell he was reconsidering that decision
