Contact, about page requirements

    I have a contact page, once linked in my footer, and once at the top in my navigation. Is it necessary to have it in the top navigation? I'm trying to free up the space.

    Also is it recommended to have an about page describing my site and authors? I have a disclaimer and privacy policy, all linked in the footer.

    I believe it's always good to have an about page, though it's not required. Also for the contact page, you can put it in the footer and you'll be fine.
