We are facing a very problematic situation since last several months due to accessive bandwith usage. But we are sure this is only local traffic. We have 2 Servers with our hosting provider Server A - this is a VPS all our webfiles/domains/dns/nameservers reside on this server Server B - this is a dedicated server contains only databases (we are actively running vbulletin based forums on this servers) Since last several months we are facing huge bandwith increase since we have transferred only our databases to Server B. (earlier database + everything was on Server A) We never ever consumed even 50% of the entire allocated bandwith in past when we were on Server A. But only after moving the database from Server A to Server B we have found this tremendous increase, Can we do something about same ? as both the servers belong to same hosting provider. We are not sure but expect that this is only local network traffic between 2 servers. Any expertise shall help reduce our costs. Regards,
2000 US$+ to run a vb forum?? That can't be right. what spec are your 2 severs? You must be hosting videos or somthing to use that much bandwith, i sujest you take them down and add them to youtube or somthing. Otherwise if you have enough traffic to be genrating a $2000 sever bill you must have millions of vistors to your site, in which case you should introduce ad's to your site and you would make $2000 back easy + more.
I would also add that you can probably save a lot of bandiwdth fees by creating a virtual network between the two servers so that you don't need to be sugjected to the webhost's standard BW charges. -If they can't do that for you, you should find an honest web host.
They are counting your traffic between server A and B as internet traffic (and this is very wrong). Talk to your site web host company and make a deal with them.
I agree with that one. They shouldn't charge for communication between servers to run your sites. That's shady business and unethical, I'd look for a new host...
It's always a good idea to review your bandwidth and hosting charges regularly to ensure that they are providing you a good price. Even honest hosts will be reluctant to offer discounts to long time customers if you don't ask them. For example, the price of bandwidth goes go down over time. (a few years ago, $3 per GB was average, now it's much lower). Subscribe to a web hosting publication or community so that you can compare prices and stay informed.
