i have 2 separate hosting accounts... each hosting multiple sites (they allow add-on domains).

i want to register for a new hosting account with bigger resources (i.e. disk space and bandwidth) but am not sure how i can back-up all sites and transfer to the new account. i know how to transfer the files and database... but how do i transfer my emails?

If you are using cpanel, there are many backup and restore option to use. you can also request help from technical support of hosting company.

If this is shared hosting just use cpanel to backup each site and then have the techs at the new host restore them into the appropriate directories after the initial setup is done. Do you store your email on the server? If so, they're in a textfile called inbox or something like that, buried inside a few directories. Ask the techs at your current host what directory your email is in so you can back it up. If you don't have access to that directory ask the techs to back it up for you and put it in your ftp directory and then you can suck down your whole site including the email backup using ftp. The techs at the new host can restore your email if its compatible.

Do you use webmail to read your email, and are the mails stored on the server? If yes, what's the mail client & webmail software in use on your server? And what web server & control panel(if any) is the server running?

The cpanel home directory backup will transfer all files, mails and settings.
The mysql backups will need to be taken and restored either through phpmyadmin(preferred) or cpanel backup.
