Considering using popups, bad idea?

    Hey guys

I have a decently popular site that gets a few thousand page views a day, but I never get any clicks on ads, or leads thru affiliate offers since about half of the traffic is generated through mostly unrelated google searches. (Don't know how this happens, but I get the weirdest searches for some odd keywords to my site)

Since the PPC ads aren't doing well, or the affiliates, would it be a good idea to try out popups that pay CPM? Bad idea? And also, what is a good network to work with when displaying popups on your website?

popup is good if most of your visitors are from US or europe otherwise the earning can be rather disppointing.

How your content is been made?. is that a generalized one or on a particualar niche? I will not agree that a website which is listed in google will bring odd keywords not relevant to contents. or you might have black hatted :(

    hi,

you should try all forms of advertising, why limit yourself?

of course opoups are good, as we all click on them dont we? yes they can be annoying but its an alternative way of banners etc dont work for you.

The reason you might be getting traffic for unrelated keywords is because you might be getting backlinks from sites related to those keywords... Make sure the backlinks that you get are from sites related to yours.. this is very important...

In my experience, unless you're offering something really special, steer away from pop ups... it's a real annoyance to the general visitor, and many have pop up blockers now. Pop ups generally will reduce the amount of recurring traffic you get, consider warning users, and if it's a forum or a site requiring sign ups, consider selling a VIP status that will mean users can avoid the ghastly sight of a pop up.
    Just a suggestion ^^
Then again, if you don't expect a visitor to return after the first visit, then i'd advise a pop up, but just weigh up the pros and cons of what a pop up would bring to your site
