Hey everyone, I've been casually freelancing for about 6 months now and its been doing just fine, i make enough to live on but im not really aggressively been persuing it up until now. Im just testing the waters to see if anyone would be interested in starting a web design/development team. The positions are paid on a per-project basis, if you'd be willing to put in some extra work to begin with as we get started that would be great. I'd prefer people to be in the UK as this is where our target market would be, but certain positions aren't location dependant. I'll tell you a little about myself and my skills, i will be the web developer of the team, working on the backend stuff. My name is Tam Denholm, i am based in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. I am a very able web developer, my skills include: 3 years experience with PHP/MySQL. Competence in OO PHP4 and PHP5. Database design, database population. Moderate experience with AJAX. I only write valid XHTML1.1 (and CSS where required). I cant design ( nor want to ) but can convert PSD's to coded templates. Knowledge of SEO techniques but largely unpracticed. The people im looking for are: A Web Designer (Location unimportant) Must produce very sexy layouts and have a broad style. Able XHTML1.1/CSS skills, if you dont have these skills but have design talent i may be willing to teach you xhtml/css. Must be a perfectionist, able to make your site cross browser compatable. Experience in flash a bonus but not required. Marketer (preferrably UK) Must have experience with all the major ad networks, Adwords, adbrite etc. Good writing ability, eg for press releases. SEO skills, link building etc. Good communication. Other marketing skills (i know very little about marketing). You'll be in charge of marketing the team and our skills, bringing in jobs. etc. You'll also be marketing our clients sites if required. Project Manager (Must be UK, preferrably in a major city) Must have the ability to split up jobs and deletegate work to each person on the team. You will be taking the leadership role on the team, your responsibility to make sure everyone gets along and does their job. You will be the point of contact with clients, whether that be remotely or in person. You must be presentable and have a likable personality even to people that are difficult. You must appear to be knowledgable, experienced and confident. You will have the responsibility to making quotes to clients and landing the jobs. If you have the experience the project manager and marketer jobs could be undertaken by the same person, at least to begin with. I am considering whether to start this team from scratch or take it from the base i have on www.dreadlabs.com, which is my site. I'd love to hear your opinions on this. Once you start you will be on a trial to see how it goes. Please PM me, or use the contact form on my site. Send me your CV/Resume/portfolio. Cheers.
You may also want some content writers handy for some of your web development jobs. I've been working on the internet, with web development projects, web hosting businesses and many other areas. I have a lot of marketing and sales experience. I can offer some consulting and help with your project here, although I do not live in the UK. The company I currently work with is based out of the UK, and we can provide some relevant services for what you are starting up here. This might fill some gaps while you are getting your team together, and for content writing. It's nice when the designers and programmers can concentrate on what they do, not worrying about writing up some story, article or the like.
