Hey just wondering your thoughts regarding Xenforo... Will DP ever make a move to that platform ? I understand you have put years of custom coding into DP and a move to another platform would create a mountain of work and months of headaches but yeah just wondering if you would / have considered the move ? Redirects / rewrites / re-coding your mods would takes years i do get that. I have nothing against VB.. well ok vb4 hasn't been up to what what people expected it to be after vb3 was such a rather solid offering, all in all and the company does seem to be trying to run itself into the ground with that said they may pull something out with vb5 if and when it ever gets here... anyways just been looking into xf a little of late and while i am certainly no coder (barely call my self a designer) but the xf coding seems so simple / effective / so much lighter and appears to have a lot more headroom for future development. While XF is new and relatively untested on a long period of time it does appear to be a very solid product heading in the right direction. No rush on a reply.. just wondering what a real webmaster is thinking. Regards, Darren
Hmmm no, I haven't though of it... http://xenforo.com/community/members/digitalpoint.47/
hahhaha ahh shit sorry mate "Rewriting ~1,000,000 lines of code to use XF framework." ouch.. how and why ive not seen you on xf before is beyond me. GOD DAMM !! hell of a nice mod Shawn, very very impressive and yet again another useful mod.
Ahhh wow.. actually i do recall seeing your "DP Spy" mod on XF a while back.. ive not been very active on XF of late tho but wow that is a very nice list of mods, will certainly be checking them out later on. Any advice for someone who wants to WP as the main site and XF as the forums ?.. i still not sure how to tackle this.. xf is too promising and i am sure will one day provide a cms / article / front page type system.. whereas atm wp is the most effective article system.. i know xf has portal type mods but i don't know anyone running them / have no way of comparing how the front page indexing / duplicate content.. prolly a question for another thread really. Full credit to you for your work that you release.. a lot / most people keep their customizations private.. i am only just starting to learn to code / hack up existing files so without people like you releasing quality work for people like me to utilize it's a hard game to break into.. So thanks i am sure i will end up running a few of your xf mods for my new project.
Well, not all of them are public... certainly not going to make EVERYTHING available... have to keep *some* stuff unique. As far as blog/CMS... not sure... haven't gotten that far yet. I have such an insane amount of stuff to rewrite, I can't think that far ahead.
Yes of course you need to need a lot of things / mods private... there is a big difference in what you release and what others release if you know what i mean... your free release / work has QUALITY stamped all over it.. there are idiots on xf changing a simple .png background image and trying to charge for it / pass it off as a "Unique theme / Premium Theme" lol.. Hardly anyone takes the few seconds to leave a simple thank you anyways most of us do appreciate your efforts even if only a few say thanks. Cheers
I'm not familiar with the XF software but i was gonna say that Shawn is running some sort of hybrid VB/XF over here . There simply is to much custom made code to consider DigitalPoint a VB only platform and some of the recent features look XF inspired .
