consecutive hypens in domain name

This may sounds a bit desparate but due to lack of imagination and lack of available domain names, I was thinking of purchasing a domain like below.

    www . domain--name.com

Is it spammy? Is there a big draw back to this solution? e.g. search engines.
Bearing in mind, I thought search engines ignored hypens so in terms of keyword search result I don't think it matters but will google penalize it for having such domain name?

honestly the domain structure is horrible,
it maybe a keyword rich domain from Google search,
but i would never use hyphen in domain, and your case double hyphens seems look crazy.

When was the last time you saw a domain ranking highly in Google with hyphens?

Keep looking fr a domain name without any hyphens!
