Well, looking on the statistics on http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/ the downloads are already more than 6.5m, which is 3 times the downloads on the firefox 2.0 launch date. The world record is set and will not be beaten for a long time i think :)

Well, it is good to be part of history. I am now officially one of those with FF3.
However, still looking forward to see compatible plugin to be available.

Those are some pretty big numbers for just having been released. I was tempted to not download it, but now I want to try it out.

Was there a previous record for them to beat?

BTW I was able to download the certificate of participation without actually having downloaded firefox 3

amitpatel_3001, lots of stuff is yet to be improved. Lots of people report bugs and memory leaks. This, as with everything new, will last for some time and will be fixed.
SHD, there's no real previous record. This is a first time attempt at something like that. Mozilla's target was to beat the firefox 2.0 downloads on the day of release. It happened just a few hours after the download opening. Now this is an official world record and maybe we'll have another one with ff 4.0 :) This is a very successfull free advertising of their product, so they will do it again i'm sure.
Oh, and about the certificate. They do not try to protect it. For somebody who has not downloaded the browser, this certificate has totally no value, so why protecting it :)
