Hi, i am in the middle of designing a website and i need to create an area to insert a YouTube video...

All the videos on YouTube seem to be 640px X 385px HOWEVER the give you an embed option of 640px X 480px

This is a bit confusing... what size space should i allow for, thanks in advance for your help...

I dont quite understand your question. Could you please explain it a little bit more? I gather that you are trying to insert a youtube video into your website but they are offering to embed in 640px X 480px though they seem to be of 640px X 385px. So what is the problem in there? :)

I would love to help you but could you please elaborate the question a bit more for me?

    Thanks :)

Sorry, i am just wondering why they offer an option 640px X 480px when they themselves embed them as 640px X 385px

In my point of view 640px X 385px is the good looking and standers size.

U can use whatever to embed, use your video's aspect ratio, to fill up nicely the screen.

Thanks for all your help... however i am still a lil confused... :(

Let me explain a little further ;)

The site allows each user to add a youtube video to their profile, and i am sure all users will have different videos in terms of ratios etc so i need to try and cover something that will work for all of them...

The user only needs to copy past the youtube url into their profolio settings and then the site will display it at with the settings / dimensions i choose... so i want something that will work for everyone, thanks again to all for your help...

Most used aspect ratio nowadays is 16:9 (=1,77). Whatever the width of a video, you become the height by dividing the width with 1,77.

I think 640×480 (Standard high quality video with 4:3) is the best format for you.
