According to MSN one of my sites has 183 backlinks, Yahoo says 48(?) and Google says 6! I know that I have a few more than 6!!! When will Google catch up with my backlinks and rate the site a little higher? Also, on another similar thread....... I have read that backlinks help with PR, great. If my home page is PR4 and the other 500 pages in the site are PR1 should I be building backlinks to the 500 other pages????? Will it make a difference?
You will always see a difference in backlinks with the search engines. I am surprised to see Yahoo is reportng more than Google for the moment. I wouldnt be too concerned about what your seeing, just keep building backlinks .
But if I keep building backlinks and Google is not going to rank them (or whatever it does with them) then whats the point? MSN is fine, Yahoo is ok but Google??
Yes I get the same from Google in that they dont show all my backlinks, Im thinking its something to do with the other sites being indexed. The reason why I suggest keep buildng is not just becuase of Google but for all the other search engines that use your back link count.
I know for a fact that most of the 183 backlinks showing on MSN are indexed by Google. I sat and checked the majority of them! Sure, I will always keep building backlinks (until someone here tells me that it was all a waste of time and now I need to squeeze pile cream onto my monitor twice a day to get a better ranking!) but it is frustrating that Google seems to ignore them!!
Just because Google does not show them to you does not know that they do not know about them It is normally the case that they display less backlinks than other search engines, but given the size of Google they probably know more about your sites link structure than anyone.
I agree with that. And, when google does an backlink update you will see more links being shown. Don't get frustrated, just keep doing what you are doing. It will pay off.
I agree with the other posts, just keep building backlinks. Google never shows the same number of backlinks as the other search engines.
Google also rotates from one data center to the next. All of their data centers are not created equal.
Google has stated publicly that they don't display all backlinks - they do so deliberately. Exactly what backlinks they do show, I believe is still a mystery. Either way, use Yahoo or MSN to check your backlinks.
I think google hides backlinks so that their serps algorithm is harder to figure out.. and therefore manipulate. -RonMo
