Hi, I have learned how to do outpage SEO but i am confused on onpage SEO here is my question if somebody can answer i would be very thankful... I have been told that in begining try to optimize for less competitive keywords. Well ok i start that and term A is very competitive and B is too so i chose to go with term C this time. Well after few days i am ranked well for it i keep on trying more and after sometime i get on first spot Now its time to optimize with competitive keywords since my page rank is good too and i am plenty of links back to me. How do i optimize my site for term A and B now in onpage SEO. Do i remove term C from title,h1 and h2 or just add term A and B with term C. Now if i remove term C i will lose ranking for term C which i worked for long time but if i just add term A and B then it will cary less weight and it will be higher to rank for term A and B and i will also lose position on term C . What to do I am totaly lost in this i hope some SEO expert can help
Keep term C, there's no reason to totally ditch it. You've tried it and it works.. Just slowly start to meld towards term A/B and slowly take over there share of the market.... Hope that helps a little.. And congrats on term C
Well thats what i am saying. If you keep the term C the weight of the terms will be lower as i was told by someone and have read it in couple of ebooks too. So this way we lose no matter what we do
Thanks but you are not understanding the situation. What if i have term C on my homepage and i want homepage to show up for Term A and B i know i can make new pages but what about homepage what do you guys suggest
The best advice has already been given to you. Terms A and B don't absolutely need to be your homepage. They can just look like your homepage but with a focus on Terms A and B. (be careful don't make this an exact copy of the homepage) It's hard to give advice without practical application so do a search yourself for most any term and you will see that many of the top results are NOT for the domain homepage. Good luck.
Jaree, Also understand that this tactic will not make terms and A & B any less competitive but it does address your immediate need of implementing on your site. To rank well for those terms I would recommend getting back links to your term A & B pages from other websites using the term in the anchor text of the link. Good luck!
If I were you.. I would have dumped C for a while.. ANd start promoting A/B and then jump back to the lesser Priority one [C]... I did this with a few Sites... and It works well... Although not for TERm C but surely does for A/B.. ALso Creating seperate pages for each term is a MUST.. Although thts My views with not so many posts.... I think this methos should be helpful.... If it is helpful.. plz rep me ... hehe juss kiddin.. but you can if you really appreciate... Thanks..
Making new pages to target new keywords is always good, as long as it doesnt look spammy. What you can do is, start changing the title to incorporate A and B to it. Since it is a less competitive KW, even if you slightly use it once or twice in h1 on your page and also in your content, you should be doing fine with that. Keep it in your Metas and contents etc. If you have links using term C to your home page also, that should also help. Next you can try and change your title and add content for Term A and B to your home page. Start incorporating these things gradually, this way you'll be able to tell what you did which caused a change/fall/increase in rankings. Do not change the title completely! Start incorporating keywords for Term A and B in it gradually, and see the changes. Also, start getting links for Terms A and B for the home page. If you do this, everything should be alright.
You should create at least one page focus on each keyword you want to target. Try reading my SEO writing guide, it may answer some of your questions.
I agree with everyone else on the fact that you need to create pages for each term, once you have done that the next step is to do some deep linking to each page. For example "Term A" get links pointing to this page with the proper anchor text do the same for Term B and C. This is how you get better rankings for each term you are targeting. Most of the time people over look the deep linking method and only send links to thier homepage, but if you want all of your pages to rank then deep linking is best way to go. I have 1,000's of links pointing to both my homepage as well as another page and both are in the top 3 for the target phrase. That is the approch I would take if I were you.
When the other pages have links to your homepage, Google knows that the homepage is where it all centers. The content surrounding the link to the homepage will help you rank for that term even if there isn't too much related content on it.
