I can understand why you are confused regarding the reviews. It is true that there will be mixed reviews on each host. Some one's best host may be worst for another one. But if you take the reviews with a grain of salt, you can find that a reliable and quality host will be getting majority of good reviews. Another thing is that bad reviews will appear faster compared to good reviews. So it needs a good research to find a good web host. Wish you all the best to find your best host
Perhaps you can use a shared webhosting only if the use of videos is not so much and decide if the unlimited reseller plan best fits your needs. With the inlimited reseller you can sell cpanels accts if you wish to sale cpanels and resellers then sign for the master reseller (unlimited). If you have registered domains with godaddy you can always let them stay in the same register and only configure the settings from there, meaning placing same ips and private name servers that appear on the new host provider.
i will be honest, hostgator gives fantastic support for getting started. For shared hosting and reseller accounts, definitely have a look at then, If you have your own reseller account, it will give you the option of allowing your clients access their own files. A reseller account with hostgator will come with features that you possibly dont need, such as whmcs billing system. So if you plan to provide a fully managed complete system you can host all the files under your own account using sub-domains, and if a client does need features that you cant provide under the basic plan, you can always upgrade to a reseller account. If you have all your client accounts under one account, it means that when you do a backup of one account, all the addon domains are automatically backed up. If you have a reseller account, and if each client has their own account / control panel then you have to backup each clients account individually. (hostgator doesnt allow software such as whmeasy backup!) Going for something such as a VPS or a dedicated server will give significantly better performance over the use of shared hosting. if your going for a VPS you need to look for: 1. someone that offers a complete fully managed solution. Your new so you will also need 24/7 support. 2. you will need cpannel, which is approx $14 per month per vps and over double that for a dedicated server. 3. Your gonna need at least 700 ram for a vps that is running Cpannel. If your going for a VPS, avoid futurehosting -> worst server i ever had. I should point out that whilever you use shared hosting, your clients will have a lag time, but shared is good to use to get started until you can justify the costs of either a VPS or your own server.
I never had any problems with HostGator at all. I have a reseller plan with numerous websites on it. Their support is incredible, too, and free. Every time I have called them, I have gotten a real human being on the line very quickly and they have been extremely helpful and patient.
