Hi all, I am bit confused on how web hosting works. I think you buy a domain first, then get a hosting plan. Correct me if I am mistaken. I want to create a site similar to http://www.613kickz.com/main.html. What kind of hosting plan would you recommend I get, and where should I get a domain? Any other useful information appreciated. Ben

Yes buy a domain first. I like www.Namecheap.com for domains. Then get a shared hosting account for $10 per month or less. If you want some Namecheap and hosting coupon codes take a look here: http://www.hostingdiary.com/2006/08/namecheap_disco.html Andrew
You need to do a bit of research to find out 1. The possible bandwidth usage for the site (The amount of data transfer from host depending on traffic) 2. The kind of technology you are going to use (like ASP, PHP, MySQL XML etc) 3. No of mail accounts and mail features you are looking for 4. The control panel for hosting account (You can skip this if you are not used to one before) Once you identify above, then you can choose from a wide variety of webhosts matching to your need. You can even contact sales team with your website requirement and asking them to cross verify that they can provide all.
Yes, you need to buy a domain first and then go for its designing. The hosting comes after you complete the design of the website. You can opt for a shared hosting package initially and upgrade as per your requirements. Many hosting companies can register a domain for you providing hosting as well. Drop me a PM if you need any further assistance. I will be glad to help you

First of all, you will need to check your requirements such as if you want to host personal website or databases which thirst for more resources. Thereafter, if you want to host them on a linux or a windows platform depending upon your requirement or feasibility. You can purchase your domain name from any other domain registrar or the same hosting company. The choice is completely yours. Once you have registered your domain name. Its high-time to upload contents on it. You will require a developer, basic HTML language or a website builder software which will assist you to do so, it depends... Then, once done upload the content through a medium such as root access, RDP or control panels or FTP which ever is convinient. And finally, search for a hosting company who can provide you 24x7 customer support and who will assist you with the best. I hope that helped.
I think that if you're confused about web hosting, you should discard setting up a dedicated server. Try getting a reseller account and see how it goes. There are some offers here that look interesting, if not, I can set one up for you at no cost. Just by following these simple steps: 1. Provide user name / password for your account. 2. Choose a template for your site (from the already provided templates in the admin panel). 3. Name your prices for your plans. (also from the backend panel). ...and you're up and running, probably under 10 mins., all free. The site would start up as a sub-domain, but you may choose to buy your own domain name at the wholesale price of $4 dollars. When a client pays for hosting (at the price you specified), the hosting fee is deducted and the rest is placed in your account balance. PM me if you're interested. ..
Ben you can do either or.. If you already have a domain, you can host it anywhere, or even with the place you bought the domain. Or you can get everything in one shot from the same place. We offer several plans for hosting here: http://hostinglizard.com/webhosting.php From there, you may choose to create the site yourself with a template, by hand coding it, using a web editor like DreamWeaver, or simply pay someone to design it for you. Hope this helps.. Good luck!
