So I started running a mp3 search engine a month ago and I am really confused about the legalities of this site.
After doing research for hours I reach a conclusion of half and half from people who comment. As for cases go none of the cases I found the mp3 sites lost.
I also have seen many big sites like beemp3, mp3raid, etc have been up for ages and nothing has happened to them and many of them are hosted in USA.
As my site is meta search will I be more prone for legal issues since I do not index instead feed off other search queries?
I also host in US so I'm not sure if its a problem but most of mp3 search engines do host there too. IF I have a DMCA link like the other big sites am I okay?
I feel like sometimes I am wading in shark infested waters but to be honest there are still many music searchable on mp3 search engines that are not copyrighted.
Pirate bay was in trouble for linking to copyrighted materials however I feel the difference is that not all of the music in the search engine is copyrighted.
Anybody in law that can answer this? Also I live in Canada so is that a problem with the canadian law?
