I received three infractions today via email due to 'running up post count/ post has no value'. All infractions were on directory 'solicitation & annoucment' threads. Basically, I was lettting the op know that I submitted my site to their new directory. I see people doing this all the time and I do it all the time. I had no idea this was not allowed. Can someone please clarify, are we not allowed to do this? If so, why not? Thanks, Janet
Can we see the infractions? Does these infractions give you any bad reputation in the forum? Will people start hating you because of that? You may get another infraction saying 'running up post count/ thread has no value'. After the rep threads these threads have started a lot lately. Also dont forget they expire as time goes so i think there is no need to every worry about this
It's a useless message, the Directory owner knows you submitted, no need to tell them. Such messages, same as 'sent PM', are indeed looked upon as if members are just posting for the sake of gaining signature links or for whatever other motive. I recently removed 200 posts form one member, they were all identical like this: 'Submitted in X category, thanks.' Times 200, that is just useless. Really, the directory owner has no benefit of getting this confirmation, the other members don't benefit etc. etc. Just leave messages that don't add value to either the OP or the board at large.
Janet, >200 of your posts are "submitted....thanks....." Many npeople do that just to give the links in their signature some exposure. So now you know that if you keep doing it, once you reach 10 points, you'll be banned for a bit.
OK, let me know when you send me a PM in which you inform me of having posted in the thread in which you inform me of having submitted. Please. E-mail me as well. Just in case.
thanks for clarifying. I honestly had no idea and definately wasn't doing it for exposure for my site. That was the furthest thing from my mind. I usually posted that on these types of threads so the directory owner would recognize my submission as coming from dp and also it helped me to keep track of which threads/directories on dp I had submitted to. anyway, I won't do it anymore since I now know it creates an issue. As they say, you learn something new everyday.
There is a difference in posting the same message 200 times or a: "Thanks, I submitted in X. Having just visited your directory, can I just suggest a category such and such and perhaps tweaking this and that..." That way you add value.
The person who puts into every new directory thread a short note in essence saying: I posted in your directory. Now please go to my directory and post there (with url to directory). What is weird about that person, is that person never posted to my directories, just puts that into each thread. Thus advertising his directory and basically saying to all "see how I can advertise on your thread and get away with it?"
All , I need is One penny for every infraction thread, and I could close down my adsense acct..... Seriously though....Maybe a Infraction Faq at this point, AND in it saying inside the faq as a rule , if you post " I got, recieved, why, its not far, help, oh no " an infraction you will get another for posting Maybe Sticky?
I agree..Please PM me...thank you.... Hey WTF...Why I got an Infraction...Crazy_Rob is an asshole..TOPSEO sucks.. <ducks>
