Please forgive my ignorance. I have just signed up for Hostgator (unlimited domains) and have been trying to learn as much as possible before making my website. My confusion lies in so many threads here & elsewhere about making a Wordpress site. I have seen articles about using WP as a website instead of just a blog but have not pursued that avenue yet. Why do I need to download WP from my Hostgator c-panel? Isn't a WP blog a separate issue from a traditional website? I do have squidoo pages, articles and a website that started out as a free website that I eventually purchased a domain and hosting package from. That was a very easy basic drop and drag type of program so hopefully you can understand my difficulties with Hostgator. Also, I have seen many threads that say you can't really use the site builder (& other) from Hostgator because for some reason you have to redo much of what you did in site builders templates (?) Resources for a good tutorial? Yes, Hostgator has many tutorials on each aspect of the c-panel but not a how-to to put it all together. Maybe I just need to jump in and take action and not worry so much about it all coming together and know that it will? much thanks for any suggestions, fin
Wordpress can be made to look more like a traditional website. It's just a matter of finding a theme or making your own that looks less bloggy or nothing like a blog. Knowing a little CSS and PHP will help if you want something truly unique. My best advice is to install Worpress from c-panel (it's a one-click install; no downloading needed), then find a free or paid for theme that suits your content. After that add any WP plugins that will help enhance the look or functionality of your site. A tutorial isn't needed unless you're a complete noob to web design. If you really need one then Google is your friend.
