Confused about external links on my site and how they affect SEO

A lot of people say it is important to carefully choose external links for your site.

I know linking out to link farms and unrelated sites is NOT good for my SEO.

But, does linking to high-quality, related sites help my SEO? Or keep it the same? Or does it hurt?

For example, if I link out to a related article on Wikipedia with a high PR.... would it help my SEO, hurt my SEO, or neither?

    Thanks!

Google does not mind you linking to high authoritative sites, I would keep your resouces/links page to under 30 links out though.

Link to everything that is useful to your visitors :) Use nofollow for the sites you don't want to vote for... don't think linking high authoritative sites will help you alot
