Conficker Virus Hoax?

I've been reading alot about the conficker virus or DownAdUp to be activated today, and so far nothing. Some are saying it might be a hoax, and others a serious virus that can steel credit card info, etc. What do you think?

I find it hard to beleive that all of the effort put into this virus would be just "for fun", or a hoax.

I think many web security companies knew that these viruses were coming out and were able to update code to block them.

Conficker virus is definitely a real virus. Maybe the april 1 attack is true and some of us is infected without knowing it. It is not a hoax in my opinion.

If it was just launched I doubt it would be showing any signs of infection, it would still be dormant and waiting because one of the only reasons to release a worm or "virus" is to form a botnet to make money. What good is a botnet that gets stopped from spreading 48 hours into incubation?

It wasn't a hoax, but it was definitely overestimated....something like Y2K bug.

I upgraded my antivirus and did a full system scan on 31st March...:).
