    I confess to almightly Google.
That I have been a very bad webmaster.
That I have used my PR6 extensively to encourage advertisers.
I repent in the name of almightly Goddle!

    But seriously folks.
I have had a successful, in Google terms, PR dictionary site which has lost ALL PR on inside pages & gone down to PR5 on the index.
The site once boasted 1'000'000 indexed pages..sob, sob.
My question is, is this because I so agressively promoted the site on its PR & can this penalty be reversed?

Any help much appreciated, your reward will be in heaven ;)

Why are you so much concerned about your PR value? Were you selling links based on their PageRank?

Well, first of all, the value of exact PR could have shifted. That is, though your site may still have the same value in the Google eyes, it now shows PR5 instead of PR6.

Secondly, your excessive linking to unrelated and low quality (black hat, questionable techniques) websites reduced your site relevance and quality.

Linking to any sites may be dangerous, while linking to relevant sites is helpful.

vishwa, not linking to any site will get you penalized, too. You ought to link to other sites on your topic, otherwise you'll be 'PR-hoarding'.

Link to sites that you want to show to your visitors and you'll be fine. Remember, link is a reference :)

The links you had to your site must have been removed. Or the sites linking to you might be removed or no longer functional. Thats why you might be seeing this drastic drop in PR.

Had you bought links earlier.. and they might have been removed now?
