Feedback Concerning the Marketplace

It seems far less active than the actual forum. This site template section used to be massive. From what I gather, the only real advantage of the marketplace is the convenience of having everything a bit more organized, but at what cost?

I suppose what I really would like to say is that I used to sell my templates here and I thrived. I took a few years hiatus for a bit and now I'm ready to start up coding again but I'm discouraged to use this site since the marketplace's implementation.

    Would like your feedback. Thanks.

Not sure why you're discouraged. There are now less scammers leaving more serious members. Just think of it as an evolution that was required to basically tighten things up a bit.

Yeah, but at the same time my work would get a lot less attention. I posted a few things a like a year ago and when I checked them, no replies/feedback/critique..nothing. I'm considering designing for more specific sites like themeforest, though I honestly prefer here since it's what I'm used to. At least before the switch.

I would assume it has something to do with 'likes' rules which prevent 'non established' member to create thread in Marketplace (including 'templates' section).

I do understand you were trying to make the staff and all of us aware with 'the situation': "Less sales thread in 'Template' Section is caused by so many talented designer unable to make post in that forum".

    The logic are:

    1. 'Likes' rules cause so many (talented) designer unable to make post in 'Template' section (Marketplace).
    2. With less sales thread created, 'Template' section turn into quite place (compared with the old times).
    3. Since DP change into 'new system', Old designer unable to 'edit/manage' that thread again due to insufficient privileges'.
Actually there are few things which may change your opinion:
    1. 'Template' section still have lots of visitors. Many members still access that forum and get what they really want. Really?
    2. The transaction between designer and buyer could happen in 'Private' and that is why that forum seems less quite.
So, Why there is no purchase/offer/critique/feedback in some sales thread? Continue reading the next explanation.
    3. Some designer may get no sales due to several reasons including:
      - The template is not well suited for the visitors
      - The price maybe not 'suitable' for the template
      - There are another template with better features and less prices
      - etc,.
After all, it is buyer's decision to buy stuff or not. :)
So, what is the best solution for you: 'Just get access to Marketplace'
    How? By:

    1. Using premium membership
    2. Contributing to this forum and earn three likes (Established member)
      - For Casual member, I prefer plan B (number 2).
Digital Point is a forum which is proven to be good place to earn money. Contributing in this forum by helping other is not bad idea isn't it?
      - For businessman, I prefer plan A (1). Need explanation? Not all people come to this place 'to chat or help others'. Buying premium membership is acceptable if you get revenue by using this forum.
    Suggestion:
If you really good in coding, here are what you need to do:

    1. Response to anyone that need template.
It mean you don't need to be 'established member'. Creating thread in Marketplace is prohibited for 'Non Established member', however, creating post (posting) in thread is not prohibited.
You will see many peoples ask for templates in 'services' and other sections. Quickly response to the request and you will be able to sell your template.
    2. Be active in 'Contest' section.
Many good clients are waiting very talented designer in 'contest' forum. Just make very good template which will make OP smile and there would be lots of 'income'. 'Non-established member' could 'post' in that forum. By doing this you would not only get steady revenue but also gain more trust and 'likes' (if your post is very useful). Good idea, right?
In my opinion, 'Contest' section is more busier than 'template' section.
    3. Just do the two step above and be active in another forum which you really like. By doing that, you may get access to marketplace again.
After you get 'three likes', Post your sales thread (or edit the existing one) and 'establish your business'.
Sound like good plan for me. :)
I couldn't think better opinion rather than what I already write above. I will share more info once I got another better idea.
While this post could help anyone to gain likes and access marketplace easier and faster, it seems there is less (maybe nothing at all) relation with the fact already stated by OP above.
Thanks for @browntwn for correcting me. :)

I believe you are wrong on this. I don't think one needs to be established to sell items in the Digital Goods Marketplace.

Sorry, but nearly everything you wrote in that long post is not correct advice for him.

    Shawn verifies that rule here:

Thanks for the correction, I would change my post above. :)
Well, I'm just new member with less experience and skills in understanding this forum. I wrote my post above based on my own opinion and i do believe sometimes my opinion could be wrong. :)
In my post above, I just give OP two advice (about premium membership and contributing to get likes) and three suggestion.

However, I do clearly understand if my advice above is not suitable for OP because to post in template section, there is no need for 'three likes rules'. So any advice about 'likes' and how to get it are useless. It seems Marketplace has two rules. 'Likes' is required in BST while 'linked' payPal is necessary in DGM.

For OP, here are few things which may interesting for you:
    1. You don't need three likes rules to post in 'template' section. For URL, please look at Browntwn's post above.
      Reference:
    2. You just need to link PayPal account and able to post your template in that section.
      Reference:
I consider it as 'happy news' for you. :)

    For @browntwn , don't hesitate to correct me if I make wrong advice/info. :)

I think it is a confusing rule. I had been mistaken about it until I questioned Shawn directly in that thread I linked. I felt badly that you wrote all that info on what is needed to post in BST, which is normally correct, but wasn't in this particular case since it was a "digital good".

    I'm agree with you. :)
The rules seems quite confusing (but I could accept it:)). Anyone that never make thread in that section may never realize about it. I wrote my advice based on the fact if marketplace is fully accessible for member with three likes.
Today, I have learnt new lesson. I would never know about it if you didn't give me the link above. :)
It seems only few people already understand about the rules in DGM. :)

Thanks guys. I think I will go with themeforest primarily since they specialize in wordpress templates unlike here and can start selling right from the get-go.

Whoever told you that you can't sell digital goods here on day 1 is mistaken.

I meant was there is no "likes" requirement there. I used to be semi-active here but now since the xenforo switch, I can't post until I decide to get some.

Strange... what's the exact error you get when you click the "Add New Item" in the upper right here?

You do not need any likes and can already post templates for sale with the permissions you have now.

I cannot make threads in any of buy/sell/trade forums. Not sure if there's a "like" rule for that.

"Add new item" works ok. Just need to link my paypal but I'll hold off that for now until I read up more about it.

Well, that's the only place you can sell templates, so your inability to post in an area that you can't sell templates (which I believe is what you are trying to do), shouldn't affect you at all.
