Taking into account the title of the thread, its not something that ive done as of yet, ive usually dealt with trying to improve ranking for multiple keyword phrases. Have you or do you currently prefer to concentrate on one keyword phrase at a time? Regardless of competitiveness.
I find that if you approach 1, you are more than likely going to appear on similar searches as well. They may not get as much traffic, or be as 100% related as if you were attacking a multiple approach - but nonetheless you will appear unintentionally for related keywords too. In that way, I prefer it. It means I can really focus on the strengths before adding to it with other keyword opportunities
Hi Alex, i think i will start using this approach, concentrating on just one keyword phrase, thanks for your input.
Definitely stay laser focused to one keyword phrase. As Alex, said, you will pick up all kinds of other traffic (sometimes it is pretty funny to see how people found your site) but the more focused the easier it will be to rise in search engines.
Hi coolaromas, yeah it will probably help long term when some of the other less expected keyword phrases start showing up in GA and giving me ideas. I will definately take this more focused one keyword phrase approach now.
I think it's not so easy, and that you are better off targeting one keyword and finding yourself lucky that sometimes you get another one along for the ride, rather than trying to target several and finding you get none.
That's my new plan, too: go HARD with a focus on only 2 keywords for the next 2 months. I'll let you know how it goes. My goal is to get at least on bottom of 1st page of Google SERPs with at least one of those 3 keywords.
