Does a .com rank higher than a .net. Every time I do a search, about 95% of the top 10 rankings are always a .com. I am wanting to buy a .net, but if the rankings for .net's are low, then it will not help me none. Sorry for the idiotic question if it is one, just wanting to know.
As far as I know, the extension means nothing in terms of SEO. But wait for the reply of the specialists that lives here at the DP forums
That's because the serious companies usually get .com because they are more common. So say I was going to make a badass website that I was expecting to rank high, I would probably get a .com since it is more common and easier to remember. .NET and .COM are almost interchangable with a slight advantage to .com. I have both kinds of domains but wouldn't go beyond these two. Don't like the .org or .us or w/e else exists out there.
Yeah the reason I am having to get a .net is because the .com is taken of the name that I am wanting to use, but they are not even using it (dead link). So I am going to have to settle for a .net. Thanks for the input.
It's a myth! But a .com is much better than a .net because most of the type-ins they're using .com not .net But in SERPs there is no difference.
I am going to use it for a forum based website which I will rely more less google picking up the pages for traffic. So if it is search based traffic instead of actual typing in traffic, then from the answers I see above will be fine for the .net domain I am wanting to get. I just did not want to get the name if a .com of the same name could one day pass my .net rankings even if my optimization is better than the .com's. Would be kind of cheap if I got passed because of it being a .net and not a .com on the rankings. Thank you for the help.
People tend to do what you have, register the .net because they can't get the .com, often because some lame ass has registered it just to park it. However .net is pretty big in the tech world, stuff to do with computers, coding and other similar things. Just make sure you make a feature of the ".net" in your logo or something so your users don't forget.
If the domain you're interested in is taken in .com, consider picking out a different domain name. You will lose a lot of traffic to the .com website because .com is the more popular extension and people are more likely to type in .com on the end of a url.
domain donot affect the SEO much.We usually find .com popular since this extension has been in use since long and most of the good old domains are .com.Also it is easier for people to remember them so they prefer the .com extension.People are usually in habit of typing the .com extension automatically when they open a site.(it is like an old habit)
If you optimized your website proper then you can get listing on any type of domain like .net, .org, .info, .name.
Neither rank better than each other; it all depends on optimisation. (In fact, search engines do not really care what TLD you use.) However, .com is better than .net because people like to type in .com in the domain (courtesy of the internet bubble).
seo does not depent on the domain tld . but if you ask for the people, people will mostly remember the .com option
apples to oranges, how ever they both get more respect from the user then .info, .name , .us and so on.
and what if I own websites having the extensions like .inso, .us or .fm ? Does it mean my websites don't get respect? LOL instead of buying a domain name like www.thisismywebarticleswebsitefordummies.com I rather prefer an www.articles.fm or www.e-articles.info
That's one way of looking at it, but I bet you would prefer to own articles.com for even e-articles.com. I have a few .info sites and I would swap them for .com any day.
As of business point of view or user point of view, .com is a better choice by all means. If you consider ranking it doesn't really matter. Look at all the .edu sites with high PR. gandi.net PR7 for example.
well my main website is on .net and it's much better ranked than the others. from what i know there isn't any difference between them.
