I'll walk you through the scenario:

I boot up the system, the computer goes through POST successfully, the windows loading screen with blue loading bar appear, the go away as per the norm, the system loads, a black screen appears, the system is still loading, then the screen gets even darker and an active mouse appears. I can move this mouse, but it does nothing for me. CTRL+ALT+DEL does nothing for me.

I CAN however reboot the system and Start into safemode successfully. That's how I'm here...

I have done Virus scans, nothing has shown up, I've done chkdsk, nothing has turned up sour, I have check BIOS and nothing seems off, I have check my video driver and it's is updated to the current version.

What I don't understand is how safemode is work perfectly, with wonderful graphics, yet I can't boot as per the norm.

System restore does nothing, in case your wondering.

The computer is a self-built PC running Windows XP Pro.

It sounds like a Trojan corrupted your OS. If restore does not work, you may have to reload your Windows. Hopefully you have the disc for it. First, try to put all the files that you need on discs because you will lose everything on the computer.

Before you do that, try to restore to several different dates on the system restore to make sure that none of hem work.
